#1 Learn Chinese in Kunming (Headquarters)
Keats School is headquartered in Kunming and has a fully self-owned property covering 53 private dorm rooms, 60 classrooms, a library, a big dining area, and a gym, all in one building. All the dorm rooms are fully furnished with private bathrooms. Located in the center of Kunming, the metro station is just downstairs of the school. It is very easy to get around. You will enjoy all kinds of after-class activities at the Kunming campus. Three meals are offered as a free service at the Kunming campus. Keats Kunming has a large international community that you can make friends with people from all over the world who have the same goal of mastering Chinese.

What Chinese cultural class add-ons are available at the Kunming campus? How are they arranged?
You can take Chinese calligraphy classes taught by a famous calligraphy master, Tai Chi/Kung Fu classes taught by Kung Fu masters, Chinese cooking classes taught by Keats cook and Chinese musical instrument classes (Erhu, Guqin, Guzheng, Hulusi) taught by famous performers.
Chinese Calligraphy Classes: 2 hours for each lesson, 2 lessons/week. Arranged when you are not taking Chinese language classes. USD62/hour.
Tai Chi/Kung Fu classes: 2 hours for each lesson, 2 lessons/week. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening 7pm to 9pm. USD62/hour.
Chinese cooking classes: 2 dishes for each lesson, 2 lessons/week. Arranged when you are not taking Chinese language classes. USD62/dish (materials included).
Chinese musical instrument classes (Erhu, Guqin, Guzheng, Hulusi): 2 hours for each lesson, 2 lessons/week. Arranged when you are not taking Chinese language classes. USD62/hour.
Can I add the cultural class add-ons after I arrive?
It is better to sign up for the Chinese cultural classes before you come, so that we can make necessary reservations with the teacher in advance. If you decide to take Chinese cultural class add-ons after you arrive, please contact us first.
What’s the difference between the Intensive One-on-one Chinese Classes and the HSK Test Preparation Course?
The HSK Test Preparation Course is conducted one-on-one and uses the HSK Standard Course textbook. It follows the official HSK curriculum to help you gauge your proficiency according to the HSK evaluation system. Even if you are not planning to take the test, you can still choose this course if you prefer to follow the HSK structure. It is a well-rounded program that covers speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
On the other hand, the Intensive One-on-One Chinese Immersion classes are more personalized. For this program, we use a variety of textbooks, and your teacher will select the one that best aligns with your learning goals and expectations. You can also focus on specific skills, such as speaking and listening. If you prefer to use your own textbook, that’s an option as well. The content of the Intensive One-on-One Chinese course is tailored to your individual needs. For example, you can take this course to support your university Chinese studies, improve your Chinese for work, prepare for solo travel in China, explore personal interests, or focus on other specific goals.
Can you offer airport pick-up any time of the day? What if I arrive at midnight?
We pick up students 24 hours a day, so you can arrive anytime and we will pick you up at the airport for free.
What time will I have the intensive 1-on-1 HSK Chinese lessons?
If you take 4 hours of 1-on-1 HSK lessons per day, the lessons are usually 8:30-12:30 or 13:30-17:30.
If you take 6 hours of 1-on-1 HSK lessons per day, the lessons will be 4 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, or 2 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon.
What’s the check-in and check-out date?
Your accommodation at Keats starts on Sunday. You can arrive on a Sunday and start your lessons on Monday. The check-out date is Saturday after you finish your lessons on Friday. If it is hard to find the best flight to arrive on Sunday or to leave on Saturday and you need to arrive earlier or leave later, that’s also possible. The extra cost for accommodation in Kunming is RMB 200/night.
Where is the accommodation for the Kunming campus located?
The accommodation for the Kunming campus is located in the same building as the school. So you don’t have to waste your time traveling between places. You can enjoy the convenience of taking Chinese classes, having meals, and living in the same building by studying Chinese at Keats.
How long does it take to pass each HSK level from an absolute beginner?
Estimated HSK Exam Preparation Timeline for Beginners:
- HSK 1: 3-4 weeks
- HSK 2: 7-8 weeks
- HSK 3: 10-12 weeks
- HSK 4: 14-16 weeks
- HSK 5: 40-52 weeks
- HSK 6: 12-18 months

How long do I need to register in advance?
If you would like to come in the summer, please register at least 6 months in advance because the rooms at the Kunming are usually fully booked half a year in advance. If the Kunming campus is fully booked, you can book a course at another location. To come at other seasons, you can register at least one month in advance or contact us to check availability.
Do I need a visa to study at Keats?
If you study for no more than 4 weeks and from the following countries, you can study at Keats on the visa-free policy: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand.
If you study for more than 4 weeks, we will send you necessary documents to apply for an X2 or L visa.
What should I do if I decide to take this program with Keats?

If I am not used to the teacher’s teaching style, can I change teachers?
Yes. It is no problem to switch teachers, and we are very flexible with this. Although most students are very happy with their teachers, we understand that sometimes it does not work out, and we are more than happy to make adjustments to help you achieve a perfect learning result.
How many teachers will I have if I choose to take the lessons 4 hours per day?
If you choose to take the HSK lessons 4 hours per day, you will have 1 to 2 teachers.
If you choose to take the HSK lessons 6 hours per day, you will have 2 to 3 teachers.
Can I still make friends with others if I take the 1-on-1 HSK Chinese classes?
Yes, you will meet all the other students during mealtime, cultural activities, and excursions. You can also hang out with other students after class.
Can I take 1-on-1 HSK Chinese lessons at Keats without accommodation?
Yes, the 1-on-1 Chinese lessons at Keats with accommodation is USD 30/hour at the Kunming campus. The minimum learning hours is 4 hours per day if you need visa support from Keats. If you already have a Chinese visa, there are no requirements for how many hours you need to take each week.
I am a vegetarian. Can I still take the free meals at the Kunming campus?
Yes, we offer vegetarian options for each meal, so we can also accommodate vegetarian students.
